How it works:

You can submit artwork in any medium including ceramics, digital illustration, animation, design, drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, 2D or 3D.

Make sure to fill out all the fields in the form below, and our jurors will review all submissions before deciding what will be in this year's exhibition.

Where to Submit:

You should apply through the MCC Art Gallery Submittable page at: https://mccartgallery.submittable.com/submit

Eligibility:

• Students must have registered for an MCC ART class from Spring 2020 to Spring 2022.

• Artwork that was accepted into a previous Annual Art Student Show at MCC is not eligible.

Entry Procedure:

• A maximum of three entries are allowed per artist.

• Unsure what you should submit? Schedule an appointment with one of your instructors to get their input.

• All works must be original - if you copied the image from another artist it is considered a master study. Please indicate if one of your submissions is a master study as these will not receive awards.

• Work must not exceed 46 inches wide and 60 inches tall.

• Upon selection by juror, artwork must be finished and ready to exhibit. 2D artists are expected to think about presentation and drop their work off framed, matted with a stable backing or mounted on foam core. Pedestals will be provided for 3D work. The gallery coordinator will discuss options with students exhibiting animation, video or web work.

Entry Format:

For work in ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, 2D & 3D: Entries will be judged online by high-resolution jpeg images that you upload to this website. For digital work (web, animation, video, sound): Please use the following acceptable file types to upload your work directly to submittable for review: png, gif, mp3, mp4, mov.

Important Dates:

Deadline to Submit: April 15, 2022, 11:59pm.

Delivery of work to MCC Art Gallery: April 30 from noon-4pm.

Installation: May 1

Exhibition runs: May 2 – June 9

Opening Reception: Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Closing: Friday, June 10, 2022.

Pick-Up date: June 10, 9-5pm and June 11 from noon-2pm.

Shiva Aliabadi

Shiva Aliabadi’s conceptual and abstract 2D and 3D work has most recently been exhibited at Das Schaufenster Gallery (Seattle, WA), Durden and Ray (Los Angeles, CA), Walter Phillips Gallery (Banff, Alberta, Canada), Wassaic Project (New York), MiM Gallery (Los Angeles), SoLA Gallery (Los Angeles), Peripheral Vision Press (New York), Kunstraum-Dreieich Gallery (Dreieich, Germany), Bruno David Gallery (St. Louis, MO), Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH, in CA), Torrance Art Museum for Doppelgänger (2016) and Another Thing Coming (2014), the Yokohama Triennial in Japan, and at the Institute of Jamais Vu (London, England). She has shown with LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division). Books on her work include: Shiva Aliabadi, Abshar: Cascade and Now, more than ever. Her work is included in New American Paintings, issues #115 and #117, and Christopher Knight’s L.A Times article, “Object Lessons at Torrance Art Museum’s ‘Another Thing Coming’.

Shomit Barua

Shomit Barua is a Bengali-American intermedia artist specializing in ecoacoustics, interaction design and emergent narratives. His work is rooted in poetry and architecture, and reflects the shared tenets of contained space, economy of materials, and movement that is both physical and emotional. He uses sensors, microprocessors and sound to activate spaces and engage our perception. As a designer, Barua is a nine-year veteran of the NY floral industry, and as an educator, has held a full-time Faculty Instructorship in ASU’s Writing Programs. He is also the founder of Moiré Intermedia, a Phoenix-based company that specializes in media-rich environments, bespoke installations and custom interactive experiences. Barua holds a MFA in Poetry from Bennington College and is currently immersed in doctoral research at Arizona State University’s School of Arts, Media & Engineering.

Miguel Angel Godoy

Miguel Angel Godoy was born in a border town in California into a military family.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Columbus State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University (ASU). He is a Faculty Associate in ASU’s School of Art and is currently collaborating on mural projects with organizations across the Phoenix metro area. Godoy’s current work is centered on text-based art that abstracts and overlays letterforms and counterforms as a way of offering a new lens into the meaning and the power that can be derived from words. As a scholar of Hip Hop culture and practitioner of breaking and graffiti for over the last two decades, his work is informed by the value of storytelling and the power of building community through art.  Godoy’s involvement in graffiti led him to his interest in text-based art and public art murals. As a community-based muralist, he focuses on community engaged projects and has worked on many large-scale murals in and around San Diego, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Godoy continues to use Hip Hop as a source of inspiration for his work by creating spaces wherein stories of the communities where the murals reside are shared, people feel represented, and to promote a critical awareness of the need to look at the spaces in between.
