About the Artist – Richard Renaldi

Richard Renaldi (born in Chicago, 1968) received his BFA in photography from New York University. His photographs have been exhibited widely in galleries and museums in the United States, Asia, and Europe.

Renaldi's most recent monograph, Touching Strangers, was published by the Aperture Foundation in Spring 2014. In this series of photographs, Richard Renaldi asks complete strangers to pose intimately, their bodies touching, and then captures their interactions with a large-format, 8-by-10 view camera. The result is a series of photographs that challenge our assumptions about race, cultural differences, sexuality and presumed identities. Other notable monographs by Renaldi include Figure and Ground, which was also published by Aperture and Fall River Boys, a collection of nine years' worth of photographs taken in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Selections from the series Touching Strangers are on exhibition at MCC Art Gallery from January 30 through March 24, 2017.
