Desert Echoes Flute Project Concert at MCC Performing Arts Center

Join the flutists of Desert Echoes Flute Project in a concert celebrating the holidays and winter with traditional music and surprising selections ranging from the Renaissance dances and carols of “A Christmas Banquet” by Judy Nishimura to Valerie Coleman’s  “Umoja”, a “Kinda Blue Xmas” tribute to Miles Davis by Peter Senchuk, a musical representation of a candy cane factory in Nourse’s “Peppermints, Shepherds’ Crooks, and Red Spirals” and Nishimura’s “The Nutcracker in 5 Minutes”.

Lisa Dektor and Rhonda Bowen are the featured flute soloists for John Rutter’s “Colours of Christmas” and winter is depicted with the lyrical “Winter’s Journey” by Kocher, “Snowfall” by James-Michael Sellers, and Melvin Lauf’s exciting “Winter Ride.”

The concert will conclude with 45 flutists from both flute choirs on stage performing “Fiat Lux”, a montage of favorite carols, and “Sugarplums and Mistletoe”, an original composition for the holiday season by Michael Isaacson.
