The Host Family Experience

Participants will benefit from the University of Granada's extensive host-family program. You will be placed in a local family's home, experiencing the real world rhythm of the Granadinos. You'll eat what real Granadinos eat, you'll see what real Granadinos watch on TV, you'll live the daily schedule of real Granadinos.

  • Two students are placed with each host-family
  • Your daily meals are shared with the family
  • Homes are located in a circle around UGr within a 15 minute walk
  • The placement process considers lifestyle dimensions like smoking, allergies, children and pets in the house;

The host families have typically worked with UGr for several semesters (and are evaluated after each semester). This means that they usually have enjoyed a broad multicultural experience through the program -- host families are often as interested in the world of their "guests" as the students are in Spain. Most families do not speak much (or any) English, so this will be a fun challenge for both students and families. They are up to it, and we hope you are, too. At the end of the month, your Spanish will be surprisingly advanced.

For students who have not yet studied any Spanish, we will hold a series of workshops in mid-Spring to help you get started.
