Background & Experience

I have had a variety of professional experiences as a psychologist. I've taught at 3 different colleges, been involved in both private and group clinical practices, & have done a reasonable amount of organizational consulting.  One of the great advantages of being a psychologist is the variety of professional roles available - and I feel very lucky to have had such a varied career.

I've been teaching at Mesa since 1996.  Before that I taught PsyD. doctoral clinical psychology trainees at Wright State University, School of Professional Psychology, Ohio (1987-94).  Even earlier, I started my teaching career at Miami-Dade Community College, Florida, where I taught and was Chair of the Psychology Dept (1972-80).

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has worked in various forms of private practice for over 20 years. (Whew: hard for me to believe!)  My clinical specializations are depression, anxiety, & what I call "life transitions".  I also spent a number of years doing organizational consulting, including private corporations, public organizations, and over 6 years with the U.S. Air Force.

Of all that, I like teaching here at Mesa the best!  I am a very happy camper these days!   I now have a total of 8 grandkids (who'd have dreamed!) and really enjoy being "Grandma Skip."   My volunteer community work includes being a CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocate.  CASAs work with children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services and are in "the system".  For fun, I love reading - especially mysteries.  My wonderful husband is now retired though he is very busy with a variety of volunteer work, including working with the Phoenix Police Department..  His background is in Information Technology so he helps me do anything technological - including this page.  We have 2 beautiful, wonderful cats, Hobbes and Bogart,  who are very much in charge of the household.

My newest interest (passion) is T'ai Chi. I have studied T'ai Chi for a number of years and I have recently become fully certified as a T'ai Chi Instructor and teach it here at MCC.   Boy, am I lucky!!
