CLASS OBJECTIVE:  Basic grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary of the Spanish language and study of the Spanish-speaking cultures.  Practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

CLASS POLICIES, ETC. (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

1.  Attendance and participation.  Your attendance and punctuality are essential for success.  You are expected to attend all sessions and be prepared to participate (active participation is required).  If you are absent and I don't hear from you, your absence is an "unexcused" absence.  Refer to page 18 of the Catalog 2003-04.  With One unexcused absences, the instructor may initiate an official withdrawal.

2.  Assignments.

                     a.  E-Workbook/ Lab Manual.  It contains automatically graded exercises in an Online format related to each lesson.  Each lesson must be completed by the specified deadline. Go to http://books.quia.com to complete the exercises.

                     b.  Homework.  You will be given assignments each day to help you internalize the material that has been presented in class, and to familiarize you with the next day's work.  These materials will be corrected in class.  You must keep a folder of the assignments.  Date each assignment.  The folder will be turned in the day of each test.

                     d.  NO EXTRA CREDIT will be offered in this course.

3.  Tests.

                     a.  Six tests (pruebas) will be given at the end of each lesson.  NO MAKE-UP TESTS will be given. The highest test score will be doubled.

                     b.  There will be a comprehensive oral and written final exam.  Students must take the final examination at the scheduled times.

4. Language Lab. Students are required to do one hour of lab work (in the foreign language lab –AS110) every two weeks. The lab is monitored by a lab technician and is open from 7am – 9pm Monday – Thursday.  Students may access the lab at any time during regular business hours on a first-come first-serve basis and must present a valid MCC picture student ID card to sign in.   Lab work must be submitted during the two-week period in which it is assigned. Work not completed during the allotted time will not receive the corresponding points. Teachers will be monitoring the attendance records and your progress of the activities every two weeks by reports from the lab technician. If you lose your lab privileges you will forfeit all remaining applicable points for the remainder of the semester. Remember: lab work constitutes 15% of the entire final grade.

TESTING POLICY:  Students should exhibit the qualities of honesty and integrity.  Any form of dishonesty, cheating, fabrication, or plagiarism may make you subject to disciplinary action.  (See pages 20-21, Catalog 2003-04)

WITHDRAWALS, INCOMPLETES, and F's:  Policy set forth in MCC catalog, page 18, will be followed.  If an "F" is earned, it will be given.  "D's" are not given instead of "F's" because the student is on probation, on scholarship, or any other reason.

The last day for a student's initiated withdrawal is July 15.  Make sure that you take care of the paper work necessary for any type of class withdrawal.  This is the student's not the instructor's responsibility.  Students who do not follow the outlined procedure may receive a grade of "F" for the semester

Note:  Course content may vary from this outline to meet the needs of this particular group.  Any student who is disruptive to the point that it affects the learning process will be asked to leave.
