The EAC has an active involvement in K-12 science outreach.
Members have been
involved in curriculum development, as well as hands on participation
local 4th and 5th grade classes. This is particularly significant as many
schools have minimized or eliminated science from their classrooms. An
common statement heard at MCC Science Days is “these 3 hours are
science our students will have all semester.”
Activities developed for Science Day include:
•Hands on interactions and information about the Life
Department's live animal collection, that includes several dozen species
local Sonoran Desert fauna.
•Interactive stations that contain information on;
conservation,recycling, ethnobotany,animal adaptation and much more.
Educating the youth on environmental, conservation, and ecolgical topics
high priority for the EAC.
