MUP 161 MCC Community Band
Meeting times: Thursday evenings 7:20-9:30 pm
The MCC Community Band is a 60 member symphonic band that performs throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. The ensemble has a rich history and has become well known and respected for its musical excellence. Our mission is to foster and promote wind music and adult bands through high-quality performances and music education.
The band is conducted by the Director of Bands, Rob Hunter. and Assistant Director Roger Anderson. A select group of 50-60 players, the Community Band performs a broad and diverse repertoire of standard and contemporary band literature along with occasional transcriptions. The band performs concerts at the Mesa Arts Center, The Chandler Center, at community and school events and with local schools.
Membership in the Community Band is by audition. Auditions are held during the spring and summer for the following year. Additional auditions are held near the end of fall semester for the spring semester as openings occur.
One hour of academic credit is awarded for participation. Members of the band supply their own formal attire for concerts. There is no other cost except tuition. Scholarships are awarded based on audition.
