Some men ruin relationships.
Some women always on power trips.
Some families turn out wonderful kids.
Some kids always seem to hit the skids.
Some people's problems seem to multiply
While they're shruggin' their shoulders, saying, "I don't know why."
But lookin' back you prob'ly detect
Cause and effect.
Quite correct!

Cause and effect—Always expect
Cause and effect—Never reject
Cause and effect—When you inspect
In the right direction, your reflection and detection will uncover the
connection.

Well, the saddest guy I know of is a guy named Phil.
Chillin' with his buddies was his greatest thrill.
But now they all ignore him, and he's just a wreck!
He's lots of fun, except he never picked up a check.
And after two drinks, he is completely sloshed,
And he kinda smells 'cause he's never washed!
And he never seemed to connect
Cause and effect.

And Suzy at the office was a dynamo,
Wondered why promotion seemed to be so slow.
Her typing was terrific—she could really file!
But everything she did kinda took a while.
And her hour for lunch always lasted two,
And every other Friday, she was out with the flu,
So apparently, she did not expect
Cause and effect.

I say things happen for a reason
Where people are concerned,
And if your life ain't pleasin',
You're paid what you have earned!
So better pay attention
And use your intellect.
It don't matter your intention,
Each cause has its effect!

Harvey waits on tables at the Steak and Stein.
The place is really busy, and the food is fine,
He should be makin' money, but his tips are slight
'Cause Harvey doesn't always get his orders right.
And when he drops a steak, he don't make you wait,
He just wipes it off, and puts it back on your plate.
Harvey has a little defect:
Cause and effect!

I know Jenny is a stylist with a gift for flair—
She can make a masterpiece of anybody's hair!
Still, her repeat customers are kind of few.
'Cause she never pays attention when she's watching Oprah, too.
Her shampoos and perms have been known to hurt,
And her breath is practically a smog alert!
Jenny needs to learn some respect
For cause and effect.

Cause and effect—Always expect
Cause and effect—Never reject
Cause and effect—When you inspect
In the right direction, your reflection and detection will uncover the connection

To the cause and effect!
