The Official Course Description:
A philosophical consideration of moral problems that arise in relation to medicine and biology, e.g., death, patient's rights and biological experimentation. Prerequisites: None.
This course will explore traditional ethical theories and their application and relevance to the many issues and moral conflicts presented in today's medical and bio-technical arena. We will discuss such issues as physician-patient relationships, managed health care, human and animal research, death and dying, suicide and euthanasia, abortion, genetics and human reproduction. The goal of the course is to acquaint you with the relevant moral issues and arguments this field presents and to give you a working knowledge of how to apply moral reasoning to the decisions that face us in the world today. To that end we will work on learning the critical reading and writing skills that are required to develop cogent moral arguments in reference to relevant course topics
