The Official Course Description:
Major theories of conduct. Emphasis on normative ethics, theories of good and evil from Plato to the present. Prerequisites: None.
This course will explore the use of informal fallacies, emotive and unclear language, such as "isms", rhetoric and loaded terms, in our everyday personal, business, social and political communication. We will also learn and employ various ways of constructing and analyzing arguments. Students will learn to use critical thinking and problem solving through hands on exploration of the news media, advertising, political speeches, and textbooks. Current world events, social trends and the interplay of underlying ideologies will provide the material for this exploration.
