Introduction to Psychology (PSY101)

In my introduction to psychology course I give students a broad understanding of the various theoretical perspectives available in psychology.  I try to apply real life problems in my classes and give students "hands-on" projects so they can learn how psychology applies in their daily lives.  I am not teaching introduction to psychology during the 2004-005 academic year.

Research Methods (PSY290)

In my research methods course students learn  how to plan, execute, analyze, and write psychological research. Through this course, you will survey the literature, procedures, and instruments in psychological research.  Click here or a copy of the current syllabus.

Developmental Psychology (PSY240)

In my developmental psychology course I use the life-span approach and explore development from infancy to late adulthood.  Students participate in various modules that help them explore the cognitive, physical, and social developmental issues involved in each stage of development.

Psychology of Adolescence(PSY248)

In my adolescence course we explore the highly specialized developmental stage of adolescence.  This includes biological, cognitive, psychosexual, and sociocultural factors as well as current theories and research.    Students will be introduced to the history and cultural context of definitions of adolescence in Western and non-Western cultures; salient issues that surround the transition from childhood to adulthood in American and in other cultures; current research and theoretical perspectives; and risk behavior in adolescence. In addition, students complete a service learning project in a local middle or high school.

Statistics (PSY230)

In my statistics course students learn how use statistics to analyze data. Through this course, you will discover how statistics are used in psychological research and apply what they learn in a project they develop. A current syllabus is not available.

Psychology and Culture (PSY132)

This course begins with an introduction to the theoretical background underlying cross-cultural psychology.  Students are introduced to the research method and how it is used to study various topics related to cross-cultural psychology.  This course will introduce students to various topics such as intergroup relations, ethnocentrism, gender, personality, emotion, language, communication, work, and health.  Emphasis will be placed on applications of behavioral and cognitive principles to enhance interactions in a multicultural world.  Prerequisites--none.
