WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?
This course is designed to introduce you to the the religions of the world. This course takes a Religious Studies and interdisciplinary approach which include the arts, music, anthropology, archeology, literary, psychology, mythology, philosophy and the humanities. Although some theology of each religion studied is covered, this is primarily an academic course on the study of the religions of the world.
In this course there are eight units; Intro to Religious Studies, Oral / Indigenous Religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and a summary / closing thoughts.
The course is taught via CANVAS, completely on line!
WHAT IS REQUIRED?
Each unit has a lecture, lots of web links, video clips, music, on line discussions, and a chapter to read in the textbook. There is a quiz for each unit, and yes, a Final Exam at the end of the course. Assignments for the semester include a semester project assignment and lots of interactive on line discussions. There are also recommended videos for you to watch, all now on line!
TEXTBOOK:
Experiencing the World's Religions, Traditions Challenge and Change, 6th Edition by Michael Molloy (McGraw Hill) 2012 OR 5th edition 2009. Recommend purchasing it at the MCC bookstore or amazon.com !
