The Official Course Description:
Introduction to the nature and role of religious beliefs and practices in shaping the lives of individuals and societies, with particular attention to the modern world. Prerequisites: ENG 101 or ENG 107 or equivalent.
This course intends to introduce you to significant role that religion plays in relationship to the challenges and opportunities that modernity and post-modernity present for this complex cultural phenomenon. To help manage this complex relationship, we will utilize the secularization thesis as a working model. Once we understand this model, we will investigate diverse case studies to discern the viability of this model.
