Pre Trip Meeting: All
participants are required to attend the Pre-Trip Meeting at 7pm in MS115
on
Tuesday, February 5th! See Class Syllabus for more details on grade and expectations
for trip.
Basic Itinerary:
Friday, February 15th
- 7am: Meet at MCC, Leave MCC by 7:30 am
- 7:30-12:30pm: Drive to Lake Mead Area, Lunch upon arrival
- 1:30-4:30pm: Frenchman Mountain/Rainbow Gardens
- 5pm: Set up camp, dinner
Saturday, February 16th
- 7am: Wake-up call
- 8:30-11:30am: Lake Mead Geology Overview & Water Analyses
- 11:30am-12:30pm: Drive to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
- 12:30-1:30pm: Geology overview & Lunch
- 1:30-4:30pm: Hiking in Red Rock
- 4:30-5:30pm: Return to Camp
- 4:30pm: Arrive at camp, relax, shower, eat dinner
Sunday, February 17th
- 7am: Wake-up call
- 8:30-10:30: Anniversary Narrows
- 10:30-11:30: Drive to Valley of Fire State Park
- 11:30-12:30: Geology Overview & Lunch
- 12:30-3:30: Hiking in Valley of Fire
- 3:30-4:30: Return to Camp
- 4:30pm: Arrive at Camp, relax, shower, eat dinner
Monday, February 18th (Presidents Day)
- 7am: Wake-up call
- 8:30-12:30pm: Geology of the Colorado Extensional Corridor (Colorado River)
- 12:30-1:30: Eat Lunch
- 1:30-6:30: Drive Home

What to bring:
- Clothes - bring many layers (be prepared for very hot and very cold)
- Hiking shoes (no one will be allowed on the trail without appropriate footwear)
- Raingear
- Water container (that will hold at least 2 liters)
- Day pack - for water, writing utensils, clothing
- Toiletries (there will be a flush toilet and running water, but no electrical
outlets)
- Camping equipment (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow--let me know
if there's something you may need to borrow here)
- Flashlight
- Snacks
- Sunscreen
- Hat (for sun & cold)
- Camera (optional)
- Gloves
- Money for extras
