Buddhism began as a reform movement in Hinduism. Buddhism tends to stress the
human condition: living between two absolutes - the claim of Eternal Truth (everything
means something) and the claim of Eternal Nihilism (nothing means anything). Buddhism
offers a "Middle Way" without absolutes. Above all, it offers a way
to lessen human suffering.
Buddhism has the oldest missionary tradition of the world's religions. Buddhism
has spread from India across Southern Asia, Northern Asia and to the West. Part
of its appeal has been its adaptability. You will discover this after you learn
what the Buddha taught and then learn about the various "schools" of
Buddhism. This variety doesn't usually bother Buddhists, so don't let it bother
you. Buddhism can be quite difficult to understand, so read carefully the book
- send me questions via email.
