Course Descriptions

SOC 130 Chemical Dependency: Sociological, psychological and physiological aspects of chemical abuse. Consideration of a variety of treatment programs offered in community agencies. Prerequisites: None. 3 credits

SOC 292 Effective Helping In A Diverse World: Introduction to professional helper communication skills with respect to cross-cultural practice and diversity issues in a social work setting. Prerequisites: None. SOC101 and SWU102 or SWU171 suggested, but not required. 3 credits

 

About the Instructor

I teach Social Work classes in the Cultural Science Department. I have taught at MCC since 2006 and I have also taught Chemical Dependency classes at Rio Salado Community College for three years. I have also taught in the School of Social Work at ASU. I became a Social Worker in 1975 and my primary professional experience has been in school social work and I have over thirty years experience in working with chemically dependent adolescents. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Arizona and I am certified to teach social work, sociology and chemical dependency courses in the Maricopa County Community College District.
