Email Correspondence

*

In all email correspondence with your instructor, please put your course, name, and subject in the subject line . There are many many internet students and this is critical for your instructor to be able to maintain proper correspondence with each of you.

This will also help distinguish your e-mail from the numerous spam messages we receive. Not formatting your subject line this way may result in your e-mail being lost.

For example:     Subject: Mat082 Jack Johnson, Help!

Online Attendance:

*

Homework assignments can be found on the CourseCompass page.  These are to be completed online and must be submitted by the date of the exam. The overall schedule will help you pace yourself to help you complete the course.

*

If a student fails to submit homework via the computer over a 4-day period, the student may be withdrawn from the class.

*

NEVER assume you have been withdrawn.  If you have NOT been notified by me, you  have NOT been withdrawn!!

 Online Homework:

*

Each section on the schedule has a corresponding online HW assignment.  You must complete these assignments before you take a chapter exam.  It is critical that you master the material here in the HW before moving on to the exam.

For your convenience, you may print off the entire assignment, work it out offline, reconnect and then submil your answers. To do this you must be in the online homework portion of CourseCompass. You should see an icon on the right which says "Print Homework".

*

Each assignment requires that the previous assignment has been completed with a scores of at least 70%.  This means you cannot skip ahead sections and must complete the course in order.  This also means you cannot access the chapter exams until ALL the HW sections for the chapter have been completed at the level of at least 70%

*

You may do homework problems you got wrong in any homework set over and over until you get the problem correct.  I am hoping as a result of this many of you will end up with a 100% on the HW.

*

The online HW is to be thought of as a minimum set of HW required.  Many of you most likely will need to do more practice to master the material.  Do as many HW problems as you can stand.  The odd numbered exercises in the text have answers in the back. You can also do the "Tracked End of Section Exercises" for more practice.  These will not count towards your grade, but will most certainly help you master the material.

Online Chapter Exams:

*

There will be seven (7) online exams which are posted in the Course Compass Course page under "Take a Test". They are to be completed by you and submitted by date and posted on the schedule. The time deadline will always be 11pm of the due date.  Do NOT miss the deadline, you will be assigned a zero for the exam and this will dramatically bring your grade down.

*

You may NOT start an exam until all the HW for the chapter has been completed at a level of at least 70%.

*

You may take each exam three (3) times before the deadline.  The best score will be used in calculating your overall grade. Each exam has no time limit. The best way to prepare for an exam is to do the practice test in your book and/or as many HW exercises that you can stand before attempting the exam. There are also sample practice exams available in course compass.

You do not have to complete an exam in one sitting. You may stop and restart an exam. The program will pick up where you left off retaining your previous answers. Just remember to click on submit WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE EXAM. It will then be graded by the system and a grade recorded in your gradebook.

*

If the chapter test is not taken by the deadline a score of zero will be recorded.  All of your computer homework must be completed prior to submitting your chapter exams.

*

Calculators should be used only to check you work on all tests. At this level it is critical that you know how to do the operations by hand.  Not knowing how to do these operation by hand and only using a calculator now will absolutely kill you in later courses.  I cannot stress enough that this course is NOT meant to be a calculator button exercise.

Final Exam:

*

The exams can be found under the "Take A Test".  These will count 15% (each) towards your final grade.  Like the chapter exams you can take the exam as many times as you wish and your best score will count towards your overall grade.

*

The Final Exam covers The whose course.  It will be available to take upon completion of the Chapter 10&11 Test and needs to be submitted before Wednesday (11:59 pm pm), 12/16.  There is no time limit on this exam and may be taken only once.

The best way to prepare for the final exam is to review your previous 7 exams. You may print them off to review them if you like.

*

The final exam is required. Anyone not taking it will receive a semester grade of F.

Non-Graded Assessment Items (These assignments Will Not Count Toward Your Grade):

>

Tracked End of Section Exercises - These are tutorial exercises matched to exercises within your textbook. Course Compass will score each question and provide feedback. You can regenerate similar problems until you have mastered the skill or concept.

>

Practice End of Section Exercises - These are exactly like the Tracked End of Section Exercises, but they are not scored or recorded.

>

Textbook Exercises - Recommended textbook exercises will be available in the Assignments link within the course shell. I strongly recommend that you complete them. Remember, practice makes perfect.

>

Chapter Sample Tests - These are more practice exercises to help you prepare for the Take-Home Chapter exams as well as the midterm and final.

Schedule and Deadlines for work:

*

Please check the schedule often to assure that you are staying on schedule and to be certain you are ready to complete the chapter exams by the assigned dates.

*

Each day on the calendar has a suggested section that you should be working on.  You may work ahead or fall behind, but you must complete all HW for a chapter before the exam deadline.  The only deadline that must be kept is the chapter exam deadline.

*

Please check your email and CourseCompass course DAILY as that is the way of communicating with you and giving you updates with regards to material.

Dishonesty: If cheating or dishonesty of any form occurs, action will be taken as outlined in the Student Handbook.
