Welcome to MAT121 on the Internet offered through
Mesa Community College . You are receiving this e-mail because of
your enrollment in section 37948
offered for the Spring 2010 term. My name is
Jacky Peterson, and I am your instructor
for this course. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with
some important information you will need to begin your coursework. I
know you are anxious to begin, so let's get started!

Required materials - obtain in advance of the
course start date,

- Textbook
- Introductory and Intermediate Algebra for College Students
by Blitzer
or Intermediate
Algebra for College Students by Blitzer

- You DO NOT need to purchase a textbook for this class
unless you want to do so. The book is available inside the
program and you can view it or print it out if you wish. The
book does especially become a reference for your mail-in tests.
So purchase it, view it online or print it out yourself. The
choice is yours
- MyMathLab Student Starter Kit which contains the Student
Access Code (packaged with new books purchased through MCC
bookstore if your book did not come with one of these, they can
be purchased online at http://www.coursecompass.com
or at the bookstore)
- Internet access
- Off campus from your work, home, or other location.
- On campus in the MCC library at Southern/Dobson or Red
Mountain . Other MCC locations may not have the necessary
plug-in's installed.
- Computer
- Valid email account that you check regularly
- This should be an account that you maintain and check
regularly. If you do not have an email account, you can get one
through MCC. Accounts can be set up on the MCC homepage at
http://www.mc.maricopa.edu
.
- Calculator
- This class does not need to be a graphing-type calculator,
but you should have a scientific calculator of some type. You
will be allowed to use calculators on quizzes and tests, so it
will help you to get one early and learn how to use
it.

What to do once you have the materials above
|
- Go to http://www.coursecompass.com
and Register for your course. Note that this is different than the
registration process you followed through MCC. This process sets
up your access to the online part of the course. The following
information will be required:
- Textbook information - Introductory and Intermediate
Algebra for College Students by Blitzer
- Student access code which contains a unique student access
code. This code is either included in the MyMathLab Student
Starter Kit or given to you by the publisher when you purchased
the code from them.
- MyMathLab Course ID for your
course: peterson51988
- A valid email address
- Once you have completed the registration process, follow any
instructions to get your computer set up to use MyMathLab. The
course is accessable NOW. .
It is extremely important that you obtain
your required materials and complete the online course registration
process described above prior to
January 22,
2010. We have a lot of material to
cover and will be moving quickly from day one. Don't hesitate to
