I recommend you print out this letter .  You should read this letter carefully and follow the directions in order to correctly register for our course site.

We have 1 online course sites to support our class this semester - WebTutor Advantage - this site is the location for your online quizzes and exams, and assignments.  You will access to this site to participate in this class and the only way to acquire access  is to purchase your course materials new from the MCC bookstore.  You will purchase a course packet that includes a new textbook and an access card for WebTutor.  You need all both to participate in this course.

Read this entire letter and review all links before you attempt to register for the course site.

The process below will allow you to register for and enroll in the on line course supported by our textbook publisher called WebTutor Advantage.  

First, you will to purchase a new textbook (see below).  Included within this new textbook package is an access code and directions for enrolling in the on line course site.  You will  need this access code to register for the on line course site.  The access code (see below) is included with the new text that you have purchased.  It is on a separate 3 by 5 card, is called WebTutor on WebCT and will be found shrink wrapped with your text.

When you have purchased your new textbook and access card, you should go to the URL below and carefully follow the directions at that site to register for WebTutor Advantage.

When you arrive at the site above click on create an account link at the bottom of the page.  Then click on the link that says Create myWebCT.  It is important that you write down the user name and password you select.  You will be the only one who has access to this information.  Then you should click continue.   You will be prompted to log into WebCt using the user name and password you just created.  After logging in you should select the link "I have an Access Code and want to use it now."  After you click on this link you should type in the access code exactly as it appears in the 3 by 5 access card that accompanied your textbook.

Welcome to economics at Mesa Community College.  This class  is extremely intense.  You will find that, if you have the time, this can be a positive learning experience.  Ths underlying platform that we use to deliver this on line course is Webct, the same system that Mesa Community College uses to post on line information for all its classes.  This WebCt class is hosted by our book publisher Thomson and not by MCC so you will need to carefully follow the directions included with your new textbook.  You should carefully consider the time and energy required to succeed in this type of class, particularly if you have never taken an on line course before.   I would recommend you read the comments of previous students (click here).The following steps will orient you to the class and the class procedures:

1. Determine if an on line class meets your needs. The MCC Distance Learning Page will assist you in learning about Webct.
2. Obtain a copy of the required textbook.
3. Obtain an access code for our class website.  If you purchased a new textbook, this access code is contained on the 3 by 5 access card that accompanied your textbbook..

• Required Textbook Principles  of Macroconomics 4th edition by Mankiw. You must purchase this text new and you will find inside the package:  an access code on a CD sized card used to register for the class and an access code on the first page of the text to give you full access to the eBook.  You are only required to use the course materials in the web site accessed using the access code on the access card called Webtotor on WebCT.   Directions for registration for your course are contained on the access card.  Our on line course which contains the content, discussion board, all testing, and assignment dropbox is on line and hosted by the publisher of our text.  You should carefully follow the directions printed in your textbook to register for the class.
• In the space of the 15 week  semester we will complete 5 units of  material -- you should be aware that this class will require from 10-15 hours per week of your time.
• If you have any difficulty registering your access code or joining the class you should call the number above (Monday through Friday, 9AM to 6PM EST)
• Be aware that you are responsible for completing the quizzes, exams and assignments to by the due date.  It is also your responsibility to ensure that you have a reliable internet connection and computer.  Check your quizzes link for all due dates for your quizzes and exams.
