Welcome to Online Math!! The Mathematics Department is dedicated to making sure you are ready for your online mathematics class. Despite their convenience, online mathematics courses are not for everyone. The following will help you assess your readiness for an online mathematics class.

Technological Readiness

A general knowledge of the use of personal computers, the internet, and downloading necessary plug-ins is required. The MCC Mathematics Department uses MyLaB and Mastering for the Mat082 online classes. This web based application has minimum technological requirements. They can be found at the MyLab and Matsering site (http://pearsonmylabandmastering.com/?ccsupport.html). If you have a question about their product please contact MyLab's technical support at 1-800-677-6337 or use their online support services.

 Academic Readiness

There are several reasons why students take online classes.  What is yours?  If you are taking an online mathematics course because you think it will be "easier" than an on-site mathematics class, you will quickly discover you are incorrect. Online classes are at the same level of difficulty as far as the topic list.  They tend to be more difficult in nature due to the fact it will be the student's responsibility to seek out explanations of topics by watching videos, animations and other learning tools that are offered. You cannot sit back and enjoy the ride, you must be active in your learning, speaking up when you have questions, searching out "why" is not as easy as it is in class.

Personal Requirements

Are you a candidate for an online class?  Check out the following webpages and read through all appropriate links.

If you are enrolled in one of my online courses you are required to take a few minutes to see if online classes are for you. Once done with the survey consider the results and make an honest assessment if the online format is right for you.   http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/distance/dlsurvey.html .
