horizontal rule

Assignment Summary:

1.   **Using your word processor, develop an MLA Work Consulted page for your final research paper. Submit this assignment with a MLA informal title page and document page numbers by MCC e-mail. Points: 20

Important: Many students find Infotrac ASAP a wonderful, time-saving tool, and want to use it exclusively for this assignment. You must not do this.  Infotrac is a good clipping service, and like its companion, NEWSBANK, provides a wealth of information on current topics. But remember that the service is choosing the articles for you to read. What if the editors of Infotrac are biased or prejudiced toward one side of a topic or another? You must balance your research with many different sources and opinions. The same is true for using the Internet.  Do not use more than 3 or 4 articles from any one source. Also remember that for this paper, a book only is ONE source. Be sure to check areas on the Internet, and the new online sources through the library. Also, remember that you can not use abstracts as sources. If you are using a source like InfoTrac, and it gives only the abstract, you must go find the real article. An abstract is just to tell you if the article will be useful. A minimum of 10 sources is required for this last paper.

Also important!  This is a starred assignment, meaning that it is a learning assignment that must be submitted, graded, and returned to you before you submit your final paper - see syllabus for more information on this.  This assignment can not be submitted at the same time as the final exam.

2.   On the class bulletin board, find two research questions  that interest you. Write a short essay on each explaining your interest and give any helpful suggestions you can for structure and research of the topic (200 word minimum on each). Write both replies in one file on your word processor, labeling each topic you chose for your entry with the name of the student whose subject you picked to discuss.

Post this in BB7-Discussion of Research Questions with the subject of the message being the students' first and last name and the label:  I.E. John Smith and Joan Jones' Res. Questions. Points: 30

This bulletin board assignment is due as part of Ass. 13 - see Due Date Calendar.

Example:

John Smith's topic on Illegal Dumping in Our Oceans:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Joan Jones' topic on Medical Waste Found in Trash:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

bulletFinish note taking and begin writing your final research essay.

Total Points for Assignment #12: 20
