PSY 282 - Service Learning in Psychological Science

Welcome to my website for those interested in pursuing Service Learning through the Department of Psychological Science. I am one of the Service Learning Advisors for our department and am looking forward to hearing more from you about your interests.

Why Service Learning in Psychological Science? One of the biggest difficulties for students is connecting psychological theories with the real world, but once they do it, a whole new world of understanding opens up to them. The same can happen for you. This course requires you not only to complete service hours, but also to formally reflect on how your experience relates to important psychological principles.

Learn more about how Service Learning can change your life - and the lives of others by reading "Why Service Learning"?

What Are The Course Requirements?

I'm glad you asked. Here are the basics:

  1. You can sign up for 1, 2 or 3 credits of Service Learning. The number of credits you sign up for will determine the number of hours you must complete for your course requirement.
  2. You must complete 50 hours of service work for each credit hour that you take.
  3. You will complete your service hours at an approved MCC Service Learning Agency or Partner or through one of the special Service Learning Projects at MCC.
  4. You must complete an Application Journal relating your Service Learning experience to specific psychological concepts and theories.

How Do I Get Started? Who Do I Talk To?

If you're on campus, you should head straight to the Center for Service Learning. At the Southern and Dobson campus, the Center is located just off the main lobby in the Kirk Student Center. Click here for a campus map. If you're up at our wonderfully bucolic Red Mountain campus, then you should head for the second floor of the Palo Verde building. Click here for a campus map.

If you're off campus you can call (480) 461-7393. You can also go to the website for MCC Service Learning. My phone number is (480) 461-7181. My email link is at the bottom of all my web pages.
