Service learning:

The mission of the Center for Service-Learning is to promote excellence in teaching and learning through the integration of academic study with active service. The Center collaborates with the community, encourage civic engagement, promote personal growth, and foster social responsibility

Service-Learning is a teaching and learning method that connects meaningful community service with academic learning through guided reflection. Areas of focus include:

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Values Clarification
  • Career Exploration
  • Social and Personal Development
  • Civic and Community Responsiblity

Service-Learning enhances what is taught by extending students, learning beyond the classroom and providing opportunities for student to use newly acquired skills and knowledge in real life situations in their communities, locally, nationally, and globally.

The purpose of these programs is to provide students with educational opportunities in community service by placement in government agencies, educational entities, civic organizations or citizen advocacy groups.
