Student Reflections of Service Learning:

December 2002

In a society that is becoming more and more hardened by greed, selfishness and other means of corruption, it's refreshing to witness acts of kindness. That is exactly what transpired at Sunshine Acres.

I want to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve.

This was more than service learning, this was a life lesson, one that taught me that "some things are interesting and enticing, while others are important". Thanks again.

I am very happy that your assigned this project. I definitely think you should continue it, it was a great learning experience. It really changed by outlook on life and older people.

December 2002

Not only was I able to help out someone, I'm also becoming a better person. It makes me happy to know that I could make a small difference in someone's life. These kids deserve to have an education. I just hope they like all the stuff we got them.

May 2003

This project was very good for me. It made me realize how much fun and how important it is to help those less fortunate than me. I know that it doesn't have to be anything big because anything donated will be appreciated by those in need. I wish I could have done something big, but I know my contribution will be enjoyed.

May 2003

Throughout the two games I began feeling a bond with these children. Funny I never thought of myself as an altruistic person until now. It was eye-opening seeing how much my positive influence could really impact these children. Overall, I'm very glad to have done this project considering the procrastination on my part.
