In Ethics, a deontological view that maintains that moral obligation may vary from one circumstance to another. In general, it is held, we have a set of prima facia or ordinary moral obligations, but the complexities of actual moral interaction often require us to transcend these ordinary principles of action. In more complex interactions we must depend on rational moral intution as a guide for our will.
