Moral Designators
Terms which are predicated of actions in order to mark their agreement (or
disagreement) with an ethical system. There are many generally recognized moral
designators: 1) 'Right' ('ought', 'should'), 2) 'Wrong' ('ought not', 'should not'), and 3) 'Permissible'. 'Right' is
predicated of actions which are justified by and/or consistent with an ethical
system. It always implies a positive obligation to act in a certain way.
'Wrong' is predicated of actions which are inconsistent with or fail to be
justified by an ethical system. It always implies a negative obligation to act.
'Permissible' is predicated of actions which are consistent with an ethical
system, but which carry no obligation to act.
