The Divine Command Theory

In Ethics, the Divine Command Theory is a type of Rule Deontological theory of morality which maintains that 'rightness' is determined by what God commands. It is commonly assumed that God would only command right things. However, this assumption should be resisted, as Plato points out in the Euthyphro, since conceptions of God may differ, and we may meaningfully ask "Does God choose to command what is right because it is right, or is an action right merely by being commanded by God?"
