Axial Age

From the German, Achsenzeit - “pivoting age”.

Term coined by the Post-Modern philosophy Karl Jaspers to refer to a period in the Iron Age (c. 800 - 400 BCE) which witnessed an intellectual revolution across the Old World, from China to Greece. The period in which the great world religions as well as Western Philosophy (which largely rejected a religious world-view) emerged.
