Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars

Description of the Nina Scholars Program:

  • Full tuition with living allowance:
    This scholarship program, created by the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, is in tribute to the life & values of Nina Mason Pulliam (1906-1997), who was a journalist, business leader, humanitarian, and lover of all creatures.

  • Available to individuals who meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Incoming freshmen ages 18-25 who have been raised through the child welfare system* and have no form of financial support.
    • College-age youth and adults with physical disabilities*.
    • Adults who are 25 years or older who have dependents in their family units*.

  • Applicants must also meet all of the following criteria:
    • Be working toward their first college degree.
    • Be a United States citizen and resident of the state of Arizona.
    • Demonstrate financial need, with priority given to those with a household income of 80 percent or less of the median income for Maricopa County (approximately $41,250 annually).
      Note: both colleges require applicants to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A), which must be postmarked by March 1.
    • Have previously completed no more than 24 college level credits.

This scholarship pays full instate tuition, fees and books. It also provides a living allowance (up to $2,750). The application requires an essay, an official high school transcript (incoming freshmen) or previous college transcript (returning student), demonstrable financial need as determined by the F.A.F.S.A, and, if chosen as a finalist, an interview.

MCC Book Store Scholarship

Follett offers scholarships for books to provide financial support to students who wish to attend Mesa Community College (MCC). Incomplete scholarship applications will automatically be disqualified. All scholarships awarded are conditional upon your full participation and enrollment at Mesa Community College.

AWARD AMOUNT VARIES:
Total amount of scholarship award per student will not exceed $600.00 per semester and will be based on your enrollment status. The award is only applicable at the MCC Book Store. The award amount is determined based on student's financial need as determined by the Department of Education's Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA.

  • Must have been admitted at MCC.
  • Must be enrolled in classes at MCC.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at MCC with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of application.
  • Must complete the 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should file a FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov if you have not already completed an application.
  • Must be able to demonstrate lawful presence in the United States.

  • Priority given to students that are not recieving other scholarships.

2012 Study Abroad Scholarships

The International Education Office offers study abroad scholarships to provide financial support to students who wish to participate in a Mesa Community College (MCC) sponsored study abroad program. All scholarship opportunities are available to Mesa Community College students who wish to participate in a MCC sponsored study abroad program. There are two separate scholarship applications. To apply for the Merit-Based Study Abroad Scholarship, you must complete one application. The application for the Need-Based Study Abroad Scholarship and the Maricopa Grant Study Abroad Scholarship is combined in one application. Each scholarship has different requirements. Please read the criteria carefully. Students may qualify for more than one scholarship based on their eligibility.

(Total amount of scholarship award per student may not exceed $1,000. This may include a combination of merit-based and need-based scholarships. The Maricopa Grant Study Abroad Scholarship may be awarded in addition to the merit-based and need-based scholarship(s).

Helping Hands for Single Moms

Criteria:

  • Attend college
  • Have US Citizenship and reside in Maricopa County, Arizona
  • Carry minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA or better
  • Have at least one child under age 11 living with you
  • Attend and participate in the Single Moms Network meetings each month
  • Be a responsible and responsive program participant
  • May not reside with a domestic partner

Hendrix Foundation Scholarship

  1. A typewritten essay of not more than one page (single spaced or double spaced) describing:
    • What your educational goals are and how you plan to accomplish those goals.
    • How scholarship funds can benefit you in achieving your educational goals.
    • Why you chose the profession of teaching others.
    • What you will contribute to the field of education
  2. A completed and signed Program of Study from the MCC Advisement Center.
  3. A completed Hendrix Scholarship application.

T.E.A.C.H. ARIZONA Scholarship

Teacher Education And Compensation Helps (T.E.A.C.H.) Early Childhood® is a comprehensive scholarship program that links training, compensation, and commitment to improving the quality of early childhood care and education experiences for young children and their families. There are four components to the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Program:

  • Educational Scholarships
  • Formal Education
  • Compensation
  • Commitment

Eligibility Criteria:
Child care center teachers, directors, and family child care providers may be eligible for a scholarship if they:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Are employed in the state of Arizona
  • Work in a licensed, certified, or tribally regulated center, family child care home or group home
  • Work a minimum of 30 hours each week directly with young children ages birth-5, or work as a director of a center that serves children ages birth - 5 (Associates Degree Scholarship); work a minimum of 20 hours a week directly with young children ages birth - 5 (CDA Assessment Scholarship)
  • Have the sponsorship of the child care center or family child care home which employs them
  • Earn $15.00 or less per hour

Arizona Watercolor Association

  • 3 art pieces (2 watercolor and 1 optional medium of choice with at least a 2 in. white matte. List title, size, medium, year created, name and school on an index card placed on the back of each art piece.)

Ongoing Scholarship Resources

Americorps Scholarship

  • (Deadline: Ongoing)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or work to obtain one within your year of service.
  • Must attend an orientation session to be considered for the education award (held weekly).
  • Must commit to a minimum of 300 hours of community service hours in one of three different goal areas: Education Services, Homeland Security-Public Health and Safety, or Community Strengthening Volunteer Activities.
  • Participants earn a minimum $1000 educational award to pay for college expenses.

Mesa Community College President's Scholarship

  • (Deadline: Ongoing)
  • Must have graduated from a high school located in Maricopa County.
  • Must verify rank in the top 15% of his/her NCA-accredited Maricopa County high school class in the sixth, seventh or eighth semester OR achieve specific scores on the ASSET Placement Test (see guidelines page for acceptable scores).
  • Must enroll at MCC within one academic year following high school graduation without having attended another accredited college or university before enrolling in a Maricopa Community College.

Mesa Community College Honors Dept. Fee Award Scholarship

  • Must have at least a 3.25 Grade Point Average and have completed 12 credit hours of 100 Level classes (or above) completed at one or any combination of Maricopa Community Colleges.

  • Scholarship candidates must meet with REACH (ACE) Program Director to begin application process.

Arizona Kidney Foundation Bidstrup Scholarship

  • (Deadline: Must apply each semester)
  • Must have a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease.
  • Must be involved in a continuous treatment program (e.g., dialysis, transplant).
  • Must be a Arizona Resident.
  • Requires a referral by a renal social worker or dietitian.
  • Determined assistance from other resources not available.
  • Completion of a financial application within the past 180 days.

Awarded to students who have completed an associate's degree with a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.75 or higher. Students who have completed an associate's degree from a Maricopa Community College with a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50-3.74 may also be considered for this award, contingent upon available funding.
