From as far back as the late 1970s when MCC Hall of Fame Coach Tom Bennett played Wilfred Tsingine at guard or in the early 1980s when the larger-than-life Jim Warne stepped on the gridiron under Coach Allen Benedict at offensive tackle, MCC has a history of bringing in talented American Indian athletes to participate in intercollegiate sports. Recent years have seen athletes like Josh Tso, Marla Howe, and Krisheena Tsingine. MCC's current nationally ranked women's basketball team has had many American Indian players of late, from Irene Bahe and Jessica Tsingine to Natasha Begay, Nicole Crisp, Alannah Begay, Vanna Moses, Nicole Tsosie, and Darla Woody (to name just a few).
As the American Indian Center/American Indian Institute at MCC participates in 'Celebrating American Indian Athletes' for the month of November, we would like to recognize current MCC athletes who happen to be American Indians and are competing at a high level in the tough Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). Check out their photos and bios by clicking on their names below.
