The Center for Service-Learning has supported the United Way through it's efforts with some of their beneficial programs:
VITA Program: Free tax preparation program hosted at both the Red Mountain and Southern & Dobson Campus of Mesa Community College. The program is available to both students, faculty, staff, and community members and is on a first-come first-serve basis each day.
Fast Tracking the Dream/A New Leaf: The Center for Service-Learning hosts and collects paperwork for this Individual Development Account (IDA) matched-savings based program. Upon qualifying for this program and saving into the account, they will match 3:1 up to $1000 (i.e. you save $1000, they match that at $3000, for a total of $4000)
Employee Giving Form
Mesa Community College is currently encouraging their employees to give back to the Mesa United Way. One great benefit is that Mesa United Way does not charge an administrative fee for contributions made to MCC specific funds.
Funds Toward Service-Learning
One of the options available on the Employee Giving Form is to select the check box that says MCC Service Learning (MCCF #4472). These funds will be used to give out "Making a Difference Grants" directly to our students.
These mini grants allow Mesa Community College service-learning students or those in student organizations to apply for these funds. The funds are used for a service project in the community -- this not only benefits the organization, but it also allows the students to focus on their learning goals throughout the project.
Applications for the "Making a Difference Grant" are available through Dawn Rhodes in the Center for Service-Learning office.
