This program is part of the World Languages Department.
Did you know that English is derived from the German language? It’s true. English has even borrowed German words, like: kitsch, hamburger, ersatz, fest, kindergarten, angst, blitz, wanderlust, poltergeist, quartz, and iceberg, to name a few. German is a fascinating and rich language spoken by more than 100 million people in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, throughout Europe, and the world.
The German program at MCC offers two tracks:
Conversation Track – emphasizes speaking and listening skills. It is for tourists and those desiring minimal conversational ability only. Some of these courses are related to specific areas of employment, such as Spanish for Health Personnel.
Foundation Track – prepares students for courses above the 200-level at any university. The courses 101, 102, 201, 202 are university equivalent. This track is also for those desiring a balanced program. The four skills included: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Before signing up for classes, you’ll want to meet with an academic advisor. Together, you’ll lay out a program and career path that suits you best. This step is essential to your academic success.
Advising for the German program is available through the World Languages department. You can also contact Academic Advisement for general advising. Both will help you determine the exact courses you need to get the education you’re looking for.
