Joseph Swaba is currently Associate Director of Grants Corp. Development for the Maricopa Community Colleges District in Tempe, Arizona. In this role, Joe works with the ten Maricopa Community Colleges as they develop and submit competitive proposals to external funding sources, providing assistance ranging from consultation on project design to writing full proposals. A graduate of the National Service Leadership Institute, Joe has previously served as the Assistant Director and Coordinator of Instructional Programs for the Campus Compact National Center for Community Colleges. Joe has been an active advocate for community service and service-learning at community colleges for over a decade. Joe has served as a fellow at both the national and state levels to encourage institutions to develop quality comprehensive service programs responsive to the unique needs of community colleges. He was also a crucial asset while on staff at the Campus Compact National Center for Community Colleges during its inaugural year. Joe has served on the Board of Directors of the Campus Outreach Opportunity League (COOL) as well as staff in their national Road Scholars program. He is not only an advocate of community colleges, but he received his Associate of Arts Degree from Mesa Community College. Joe also has a B.A. in Communications from Metropolitan State University (MN) and a M.Ed. in Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix (AZ). Joe has served as an external reviewer for FIPSE (Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education), HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development), and the DOE (Department of Education).
