Short Bio for Christine Cress

Dr. Cress is Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Policy and Professor of Postsecondary, Adult, and Continuing Education (PACE) at Portland State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Educational and Organizational Change from UCLA and is an accomplished scholar (over 50 publications & 100 presentations) focused on the psychology of learning as related to diverse adult learners. Dr. Cress and her co-authors published a best-selling textbook, Learning through Serving, for faculty and students on how to realize effective learning and community gains through community-based learning projects. She provides training and consultation with colleges, businesses, and organizations across the country on cognitive, cultural, and professional development issues including expertise on curricular integration and assessment of service learning and civic engagement experiences.
