Tragedy Knows No Boundaries:

This is the message Tom and Druann Letter want to share with the community.

On May 31, 1998, Weston Thomas Letter drowned in their family swimming pool.

Weston's daddy, a local firefighter, is trained in CPR and is experienced in responding to tragic calls. Weston's mommy, an elementary school educator, teaches childhood safety to her students. The Letters went to all lengths to protect their children and teach them safety measures. Weston During the first two summers of Weston's young life, he was entrolled in swimming lessons and was aware of potential water dangers. The Letters felt that they had taken all necessary precautions until this tragedy changed their lives forever.

How could this happen to a family that was so protective and cautious? How could they survive without their only son? They experienced so many different emotions all centered around the most indescribable pain imaginable. Each day, Weston's mommy, daddy, and twin sisters yearn to hear his sweet voice echo "I love you" and feel his warm, tender hugs.

With help from family and friends, and with the support of Mesa Community College, the Letter family embarked on a mission to educate the community on drowning prevention. Now in it's third year, Water Watchers has now merged with the Injury Prevention Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital. With the help of community volunteers, corporate sponsors, and various Valley of the Sun Fire Departments, the Third Annual Water Safety Day will take place at Mesa Community College on April 24, 2002 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

We invite you to join us in this important mission.
