Red Mountain Choirs Present Songs of the Season - A Living Christmas Tree

The Mesa Community College Red Mountain campus will present the annual Songs of the Season Christmas program in the form of a Living Christmas Tree this year.

Songs of the Season will feature more than 70 choir members from the three MCC Red Mountain performing arts choirs. The Sun Valley Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Glenn M. Bennett, professor of Choral Studies, is a community chorus that will celebrate its 40th Anniversary of making great music here in the East Valley in 2013. The group Cantilena, also under Dr. Bennett’s direction, is an audition only group that has performed in many local venues with such groups as the Tempe Symphony and the Symphony of the Southwest. The Red Mountain Chorale, under the direction of Andrew Briggs, Adjunct Professor of Music and Voice and Doctoral of Music Arts Voice candidate at Arizona State University, will also perform.

The unique presentation of familiar and not so familiar songs of the holiday season will be staged in a 24 foot long by 17 foot high, tree shaped, wood and steel structure decorated with greenery and lights.

The Songs of the Season Living Christmas Tree will be held December 14 and 15 in the Rehearsal and Performance Center (S-140) of the Saguaro building at the MCC Red Mountain Campus (7110 E. McKellips Road, Mesa). An evening performance will take place both days at 7 pm. A matinee performance is also being offered on Saturday at 1:30 pm.

Ticket costs for the evening performances are $12.00 each which includes an evening of entertainment followed by a dessert reception. The Saturday matinee performance does not include a dessert reception. Tickets for the matinee are priced at $6.00 each.  Proceeds from this event will go towards scholarships for music students at MCC.

Join the MCC Red Mountain choirs to celebrate the holiday season and experience this year’s Living Christmas Tree.
