Book Club at MCC RM Campus Open to Public

Drawing from Twelve Years a SlaveTwelve Years a Slave is MCC RM Book Club Selection Book lovers in northeast Mesa and surrounding areas are invited to join Mesa Community College students, faculty and staff to discuss Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. The book is based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom in the pre-Civil War United States.

The MCC Red Mountain Book Club is coordinated and led by English faculty Elizabeth Simpson and Library faculty Elisabeth Rodriguez.

“Everyone is welcome to join the MCC Red Mountain Book Club,” said Simpson.  “Participants can look forward to intellectual discussions and access to e-books through the MCC Red Mountain Book Club website.”

Simpson said being part of a book club often helps keep students interested in staying in college to complete a degree or certificate. Community members, faculty and staff enrich the discussions, creating a diverse community that encourages readers of all ages.

MCC’s Red Mountain Book Club will meet from noon – 1 p.m. on Jan. 26, Feb. 23 and March 30 in the Mesquite Building, room 200, at MCC’s Red Mountain campus, 7110 E. McKellips Rd. in Mesa.
