Mesa Community College Music Business Program Partners With Gangplank

Mesa Community College’s Music Business Program has announced a new partnership with Gangplank, headquartered in Chandler, AZ. Gangplank is a start up accelerator that offers collaborative workspace, community events, and innovative educational programs to support creative communities in the Valley, Tucson and Virginia.

Alexandra Perdue, Music Business Program Director stated, “Gangplank is an incredibly interesting, cutting edge, business and community hub. We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity to our students and the community.”

As a result of the partnership with Gangplank, MCC will offer a new Music Business course, MUC215 Music Industry Seminar: Innovation in Music Technology, beginning this fall. The eight-week course will meet on Tuesdays from 10 am – 12 pm at the Gangplank headquarters.

Perdue explained, “The Music Industry is, increasingly, being shaped by technology innovations. From digital music distribution to at-home recording studios, new products and services are launched on a highly accelerated basis. This new course is designed to promote the examination and strategic discussion of these innovations in the context of music production, marketing, and career planning.”

Music business students will be teamed with artists, bands or songwriters from the Phoenix area to help them gain a solid introduction to current music marketing strategies. Gangplank will engage a leading technology specialist each week to teach students about best practices for optimizing technologies such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, iTunes, Stageit, Google Analytics and more. Rob Hunter, MCC Music faculty member, and professional musician will oversee the development and implementation of the course in collaboration with Tim Agersea at Gangplank.

"We are excited to work with MCC to provide opportunities for those passionate about music, helping them to do what they love for a living. This is exactly the kind of catalyst the East Valley needs to continue moving its music scene forward,” stated Derek Neighbors, Founder of Gangplank.
