Floor The design and construction of the Paul A. Elsner Library and High Technology Center allows Mesa Community College to: expand
library programs and services. Building Specifics: The building encompasses 92,069 square feet, about two-and-a-half times the size of the previous Mesa Community College Library. Four state-of-the-art classrooms are located in the building. Two of the first floor classrooms are technology training classrooms, with twenty-four computer workstations and one instructor workstation in each room. The third classroom on the first floor is a large, multi- purpose classroom that holds up to 75 people classroom-style (or more if seating is arranged theater-style). The second floor classroom is the focal point for MCC's premiere program in library and information literacy instruction. All three floors include space for leading edge computer hardware and software. The first floor has 219 computer workstations, and provides access to multimedia production tools for students, faculty and staff. The second floor has 107 computer workstations, and a Reference Consultation area including two computer workstations. The third floor has accommodations for 112 computers with wireless access throughout. The
Learning Enhancement Center on the first floor provides tutoring for
academic courses to student in person, on the phone and at remote site
location. The College's administrative offices are housed on the third floor. The library's administration, including faculty librarian offices, are on the second floor. A Reading Room overlooking the entire campus is located on the third floor. This room is used by students, faculty and staff for quiet reading and special events.
The Library at Red Mountain | The Paul A. Elsner Library MCC’s Library at Red Mountain is located in the Desert Willow building (17,784 sq ft.) The first floor houses the Learning Enhancement Center (LEC) and the Academic Computing areas of the department. Reference services and Access Services/Circulation are located on the second floor. The LEC provides tutoring for academic courses to students. Drop-in tutoring sessions are available Monday-Friday on a variety of subjects. LEC has two study rooms to facilitate working with students in small groups. They also support student learning through various tutorial and instructional aids. Academic Computing staff on the first floor assists students needing help with technology resources - computers and software. In addition the Computer Technicians help students use a variety of electronic instructional resources. The area includes 17 computer tables allowing for collaborative work. Other College departments housed on the first floor are Media Services, the Writing Center and Fiscal Services. Library resources and services are provided on the second floor of Desert Willow. Here students receive point of need instruction on the research process. They also learn more about accessing and using information via library print and electronic resources. Reference Librarians are available both day and evening to help students and faculty with their information needs. The library collection includes about 6,000 books, videos and periodicals in physical form. About 24,000 additional books and access to 50+ electronic subscriptions are provided via the library's electronic resources. Red Mountain students can also use books and magazines from the Paul A. Elsner Library location through computerized document delivery, daily courier services and personal visits. Students have over 50 PC's on the second floor for use in accessing library resources. The library provides tables and leisure seating to make studying and browsing magazines convenient. Quiet study rooms can be used for group collaboration or viewing videos. Also housed on the second floor of Desert Willow are the business departments Open Entry/Self Paced services, Psychology's Psychology Instruction Center (PIRC lab) and the make-up Testing Center.
