Program Description



Participants will spend a full month immersing themselves in the study of Irish culture and history while exploring and experiencing the rich and diverse heritage of Ireland.

Estimated Program Costs
  • Program Fee: $3,890 (includes airfare)
  • Tuition: 6-7 credit hours
  • Registration Fee: $15
  • Course Fees: ART142 requires a $35 course fee.
  • Meals are NOT included (estimated at $1,000).

Program fee includes academic facilities, airfare, cultural excursions, ground transportation, lodging, and travel insurance.

Ireland Program Excursions

Using Athlone as a home base, students will take cultural excursions to locations such as the megalithic monuments at Loughcrew and Trim Castle, spend days in Dublin and/or Galway and take a boat to Clonmacnoise. View the itinerary.

Ireland Program Details

Study Abroad in Ireland is held on the campus of Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) located in picturesque Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland.

Participants will be housed in the Croi Oige Student Village apartments conveniently located across from AIT's campus. Each four bedroom apartment is fully furnished and comes equiped with TV, iron and ironing boards, oven, microwave oven, refridgerator, electric kettle, all kitchen utensils, and beding. Each bedroom comes with a study/computer desk and is internet ready with high speed internet acccess (via ethernet).

Courses Offered (Choose 6-7 credits):
  • ART142: 16488 Introduction to Digital Photography (3 cr); requires $35 course fee
  • MHL149: 17086 Traditional Irish Music (3 cr); Fulfills G
  • MUP181: 17087 Chamber Music Ensemble (1 cr)
    This 1-cr hour course does not count toward the 6-cr hour program requirement.
  • REL250: 17124 History of Religion in Ireland: Ancient to Early Medieval; Fulfills HU, H
  • STO290: 16738 Irish Storytelling Tradition

Mandatory Orientation:

April 14, 2012 from 9 am - 1 pm in LB145 in the Elsner Library at the Southern & Dobson campus.

You must attend the mandatory general study abroad orientation. There may be additional required meetings for your specific program. Contact the Program Director for details.
