What is MEMS? The Maricopa Emergency Management System (MEMS) is a part of the District-wide disaster recovery plan to protect life, property, and the environment, minimizing injury and restoring mission critical business functions in the shortest and most cost effective manner. The most important thing that you can do is to be informed and prepared. Disaster prevention includes both being prepared as well as reducing damages (mitigation). The four important steps to be sure you and your department are ready for any emergency situation are: be informed about the different types of emergencies that can happen in your area and their appropriate responses, make a family/workplace communications plan, build an emergency kit, and get involved in community/college preparedness.
Emergencies, accidents, injuries and other unexpected events can occur at any time and in any place. Being prepared both mentally and physically for the unexpected is the first and best defense to minimize an incident. Each of us must take a pro-active approach to providing a safe environment and although we cannot cover all situations, the procedures outlined here can help prepare you should an emergency arise.
