Teach as an Adjunct Faculty Member at MCC

Minimum Requirements

Academic Areas: A master's degree from an accredited college or university in the field to be taught, or
A master's from an accredited college or university in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or 18 graduate semester hours in the field to be taught,
Completion of EDU250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent within two years from the date of hire.

Occupational Areas: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 3 years of directly related work experience in field to be taught, or
5 years of directly related work experience in the field to be taught,
Completion of EDU250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent within two years from the date of hire.

How does the hiring process work?: Hiring is based on student enrollment and number of class sections. Each department chair maintains an active application file and establishes hiring protocol for their department.
When is the most likely time of the year that I might be hired?: We hire throughout the year, but peak hiring times are August and January coinciding with our Fall and Spring class offerings.
Are official transcripts required?: Official transcripts are not required until hired. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for your application.
What choices do I have for teaching?: MCC offers instruction to students in the classroom, on-line, and in hybrid formats. We also have multiple locations including the Southern and Dobson campus, Red Mountain Campus, our Downtown Center, and a number of satellite locations. We offer day, evening, weekend, short-term, and internet-based classes for university transfer, occupational education, and developmental education.
What is the pay rate?: The current pay rate for adjunct faculty is $813 per load hour. A typical class, such as ENG101, is 3 load hours. Adjuncts may teach up to 9 load hours. If adjunct faculty members teach at other Maricopa Community College sites, the 9 load hour limit is inclusive of all colleges.
Do I need to re-apply?: Once an application has been submitted, applicants need not re-apply. Applicant information remains on file for approximately 1 year. You may update your contact information or send an updated resume at any time by sending an updated application to the department.
What if I have not heard back regarding my application?: It is up to the individual department chairs to determine how long applications will be kept on file to be considered for future adjunct faculty openings in their departments. You may contact the department chairperson to inquire about the status of your application.
