Web-Based Teaching Tools
Faculty who are interesting in teaching online are strongly encouraged to enroll in some of the workshops offered by the Center for Teaching & Learning. Individuals with little or no experience using MCC's web=based teaching tools will find the following workshops particularly helpful:

Online/Hybrid Instruction Courses
MCC's Center for Teach and LEarning offers numerous workshops to help faculty members develop and nurture the above listed skills.
It is highly recommended that those interested in distance learning instruction successful complete the online CIS 236: Web-Based Teaching & Learning I; and the CIS 237: Web-Based Teaching & Learning II. The Blended by Design workshop offered through Maricopa Community College District's MCLI is an excellent workshop for faculty who want to create a hybrid course.
Web-Based Teaching and Learning I:
Experience using a web-based learning environment from an online student's perspective. Use communication tools, submit assignments, use evaluation tools, create homepages, and navigate online-learning environment. Introduction to basics of online pedagogy. Hands-on experience with a web-based learning environment. Prerequisites: CIS133CA or CIS133DA, or permission of instructor.
Web-Based Teaching and Learning II:
Create an online or hybrid course using a web-based learning environment. Create, prepare, and manage content and resource files; locate and add resources; and manage a course homepage. Add, delete, and revise tools; create, maintain, and release quizzes and assignments; and manage a course. Track students, data, and revise student grades, submissions, and attendance. Hands-on experience with creating a course using a web-based learning environment. Prerequisites: CIS236, or permission of instructor.
Blended by Design:
The MCLI Blended (Hybrid) Learning Faculty Development Initiative offers various Blended Learning course redesign offerings designed to support faculty members in designing new or redesigning existing courses for delivery in the blended course delivery format. The program supports the following instructional goals:
- Produce a plan for designing a blended course or redesigning an existing course as a blended course,
- Adapt a syllabus for use in a blended course,
- Learn strategies that will help students be successful in blended courses,
- View and evaluate different blended course models,
- Develop ways to establish community in online asynchronous discussions,
- Identify ways to present content online,
- Identify the learning objectives for your blended course,
- Develop an online activities to use in your blended course,
- Describe design elements that should be applied to online group or team work,
- Describe and incorporate classroom assessment techniques into your course,
- Collaborate with peers from a variety of disciplines,
- Leverage their background and proficiencies as successful educators to become highly effective in the principles and practices of blended instruction,
- Integrate research-based, proven techniques and strategies relating to learning theory to develop a successful blended environment, and
- Develop high quality blended learning materials and strategies that can be immediately applied.
