NURSING Refresher PROGRAM
Be a Nurse

Welcome to the Registered Nurse Refresher Program

Mesa Community College offers a Registered Nurse Refresher program on the internet. The program consists of two sequential courses that are approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing for licensure in the state of Arizona only. The program may be completed in as little as six months. For complete program information please refer to the RN Refresher Information Packet.

Eligible candidates must meet the following program requirements:

  • Practiced nursing as an RN after passing the NCLEX-RN
  • Practiced nursing as an RN within the last 15 years
  • License is not under stipulation by the Arizona State Board of Nursing
  • Previous experience in specialty area (pediatrics, obstetrics, or psychiatric), if specialty are is chosen for clinical experience

Spring January - April

NUR228 Registered Nurse Refresher - 6 Credits Review of Nursing Theory

Refreshers can choose to be reviewed in any or all of the following:

  • Medical / Surgical Nursing
  • Obstetrical Nursing
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Psychiatric Nursing

NUR 229 Registered Nurse Preceptorship - 4 Credits Clinical

The clinical course will start after the theory course. The first part of NUR229 includes 4 days of a mandatory orientation that is held on the MCC campus. Some campus days may be held on a Saturday. All students are required to attend this orientation. The reminader of the course is a 160 hour Precepted clinical experience, under the supervision of an RN, in an approved agency.

These courses are not intended for nursing school graduates wanting to prepare for NCLEX-RN.
