NURSING Refresher PROGRAM

Welcome to the Registered Nurse Refresher Program

Mesa Community College offers an online Registered Nurse Refresher program. The program consists of two sequential courses that are approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing for licensure renewal in the state of Arizona only. The program may be completed in as little as six months. All program requirements must be completed within 1 year from program start date. Eligible candidates must meet the following program requirements:

  • Practiced nursing as an RN after passing the NCLEX-RN or after obtaining RN licensure in a foreign country.
  • Practiced nursing as an RN within the last 15 years
  • RN license (current, inactive, lapsed or re-issued) is in "good standing" with the Arizona State Board of Nursing, i.e, no disciplinary action, monitoring agreement, etc.
  • Employment history validates RN practice experience in selected nursing specialty - Pediatrics, Obstetrics or Psychiatric/ Mental Health nursing (all Refreshers are eligible for the Medical/Surgical track)

UPCOMING RN REFRESHER INFORMATION SESSION:

2/9/12, 1:00-2:0PM, Health/Wellness Bldg (# 8), Rm HW-841

NUR228 Registered Nurse Refresher - 6 credit online course. Course content includes Nursing Core Concepts, Pharmacology Core Concepts and a review of Nursing Theory in selected specialty track:

  • Medical / Surgical Nursing
  • Obstetrical Nursing
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

NUR 229 Registered Nurse Preceptorship - 4 credit hybrid (combination of online & face-to-face instruction) clinical course. Students are eligible for the clinical course after successful completion of the NUR228 theory course.

The first part of NUR229 includes a 4-day mandatory orientation held on MCC's Southern & Dobson campus. Some campus days may be held on a Saturday. All students are required to attend the orientation. The reminader of the course requires a 160 hour precepted clinical experience under the supervision of an RN in an approved agency.

ALL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN ONE YEAR

These courses are not intended for nursing school graduates wanting to prepare for NCLEX-RN.
