There are several important things to keep in mind about genes:
 Genes makes us what we are.  Genes actually occur in pairs.

Alleles can be dominant, recessive, or co-dominant when paired together on a chromosome. When two traits are co-dominant, they are both expressed as in the example of the type AB blood.


The way alleles are paired can be defined in one of three ways:

The chromosome, or "colored bodies" from chromo (color) and soma (body), are threads located in the cell's nucleus. These threads determine our make up. Genes are located along these threads and it is actually the genes that determine what we look like.
