The unification in 221 B.C. ushered in a long line of imperial dynasties. A single state government with strong centralized control was established. The bureaucracy was built at the central state level and within each of the provinces. There were strong lines of control between the provinces ruled by governors and the central state ruled by the imperial king. Law was standardized and a strong authoritarian rule was imposed.
