This image (more photographs of Angkor Wat) looks down the main avenue entrance to Angkor Wat, the largest temple at the Angkor complex. Constructed during the first half of the 12th century, Angkor Wat is the supreme masterpiece of Khmer art. It was built by Suryavaram II (1112-1152) to honor the Hindu god Vishnu, with whom the king was identified, and for eventual use as the king's burial site.
