Misa Vening

Misa Vening Misa Vening is currently enjoying a One-Semester-Only (OSO) assignment here in the Department of Business and Information Systems (BIS). She is teaching BPC and CIS classes.

Misa holds an AAS degree in Automotive Performance Technology from MCC and a BS in Multimedia Writing from ASU. She recently completed her Masters of Science in Technology/Computing Studies from ASU. A former UNIX system administrator, Misa is an HP Certified System Administrator. She is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and of Usenix. She sometimes teaches Electronics classes for MCC and is knowledgeable in Open Systems technology.

Misa worked in several MCC departments over the past four years and has also worked at the Arizona State Hospital and with the Motorola SPS Division. At Motorola, she received several awards for software engineering excellence and submitted an application for a software patent. Misa has an interest in self-contained software development environments. She hopes to propose publication of several textbooks in the next year or two. She likes to write Science Fiction and loves to grow and cook her own food.

Misa is active in the community, helping with AZ Game and Fish wildlife rescue efforts and providing tech support for the Critters web site. She has also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Tempe Little Theater, and Motorola charities; she enjoys teaching young people how to drive and assisting her peers with the use of technology.

When asked something interesting or unusual about herself, she indicated that she held a pilot's license before she had a driver's license, and she once seriously considered becoming an orthopedic surgeon. In the next five to 10 years, Misa hopes to be teaching full-time at a Community College, to have published her first fiction book, and to be involved again in Community Theater and amateur filmmaking.

Misa and her husband Mark make their home in Gilbert.
