Burton Borlongan
Burton Borlongan is in his first year as a full-time residential faculty member here in the
Department of Business & Information Systems. Burton previously taught full-time at the
University of Advancing Technology in Phoenix. He has been an adjunct faculty member
here at Mesa Community College for the past two years. He teaches classes in the
Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Business/Personal Computer (BPC) programs.
Burton is a Massachusetts native who lived several places before settling in Arizona for the past 20+ years. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design from Arizona State University, and his specialty and first love is teaching courses related to the CIS Game Technology certificate. His interests and activities include video games, music / audio, and mobile computing. Burton is a member of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), the independent non-profit organization devoted to game software developers, and the American Institute of Graphics Arts (AIGA), the professional association for designers. He holds several certifications in Autodesk, a 2D and 3D design software package used in architecture, engineering and building construction, manufacturing, and media and entertainment applications. When asked something that might surprise others, he mentioned that he served in the US Army. When asked the most interesting place(s) he has ever been, he listed Bohol (in the Philippines), Hawaii and Sicily. It must be something about islands... Burton really likes being around students and sharing the camaraderie from his fellow colleagues. Asked what he hopes to be doing in 5 to 10 years, Burton says he wants to be continuing to improve as an instructor and continuing to contribute to the Department and to the MCC community at large. Burton and his fiance, Ria, plan to be married in early 2009. They will make their home in Tempe.
